ALPHA 0.8.7: Controlling Interest


This update includes a couple of major mechanical changes that I'd like to explain briefly, since they may not make a lot of sense in isolation. First, arcology ownership shares are now modeled. The player starts with a narrowly controlling interest in their new arcology, and there are a variety of different effects of buying and selling parts of the arcology. This is something I've intended to add for some time, since this is the way such things often work in real life: modern captains of industry have usually sold a share of their big project to someone or other, and how they manage that relationship is a potential source of benefit or danger. In isolation, though, this may seem like an unnecessary complication. However, this is going to become a way to assimilate neighboring arcologies by hostile takeover. In any case, the system has been balanced to reproduce preexisting gameplay if the player chooses to ignore it. The starting position is safe. Selling ownership interest is dangerous but profitable, while reaching for total control gives bonuses.


Second, slave population mechanics have been updated and tightened. This is another change that's been on the list for a while, simply because the penthouse was an absurd Dormitory of Holding that could house an infinite number of slaves immediately. The new mechanics put soft limits of slave populations by making successive population limit upgrades increasingly expensive on a simple linear scale. There's a fine tradition in games design of using soft caps to disguise coding or hardware limitations, and this is an example of that. Huge numbers of slaves will slow the game down, and this update makes it more expensive to keep huge numbers of slaves.

0.8.7 Changelog


Slave housing
  • All facilities now use the same capacity system.
  • Overcrowding facilities other than the Arcade is no longer possible: facility capacities serve as a hard cap.
  • Subsequent capacity upgrades become more expensive each time one is purchased.
  • The penthouse dormitory now has a capacity, and exceeding it will cause escalating penalties for slaves there.
  • The individual rooms now have a capacity, which is a hard cap on the number of slaves that can be given luxurious living standards.
  • Slaves in committed relationships will automatically share a room, reducing the number of rooms required to keep them in luxury.
  • Updated the RA so that it will do its best to obey instructions while respecting this system.
Arcology ownership
  • All arcologies now use a percentage ownership system, with arcology leadership being the party that controls the largest percentage.
  • As a new owner, the PC starts with a safe controlling interest in the arcology, and can buy and sell ownership by the percentage.
  • The ownership price is determined by the arcology's current prosperity.
  • The percentage owned by the largest single minority owner is tracked, and if this rises over the PC's, the game is over.
  • Minority shares in arcologies rise more slowly with increased arcology prosperity.
  • Neighboring arcologies use a simplified version of the ownership system.
  • Changes of government in neighboring arcologies now occur when the largest minority owner controls more of the arcology than the current leadership.
  • Added ownership and other economic information to the sidebar.
Personal assistant upgrades
  • Split computer core upgrades into their own tree, which is currently limited to two upgrades only.
  • The first computer core upgrade provides all the benefits associated with the old upgrade in the arcology upgrade tree.
  • The second computer core upgrade enables a subsidiary Market Assistant, which can play the menial slave market automatically.
  • Provided an announcement event that introduces the new capability as soon as it becomes available.
  • Highly characterized personal assistants' avatars can simulate a sexual relationship with the Market Assistant's avatar.
Other updates
  • Pit fight support for sightless slaves, by Anon.
  • More pregnancy descriptions in random events, by Anon.
  • Split some options off the excessively long Manage Arcology menu into a new Manage Penthouse menu.
  • Boosted the cost of policy upkeep to make certain policies less overpowered.
  • More slave introduction options, including convenient options that place slaves directly into the Industrial Dairy or the Arcade.
  • Added ballsacks to the organ fabricator.
  • Code revisions for better performance.
  • Bugfixes, with powerful assistance from Bane70.

I like to have one or two decent sex slaves, but any non white/asian/mixed race I amputate, blind, mute, shave, brand and reduce waist/breast/shoulder/rib/ass size and stick into the arcade to be racially inferior fuckworms. I just don't like having to worry about losing my save or having my arcology influenced.

    4. I have to say I love the management side of Free Cities, really. I'm saying this because I'd Like Fc Author to know that while it might not be everyones cup of tea it's definitely a thing for some.

      Also, on the easy difficulty I can't see how you can feel threaten in any way. But sure, maybe a super easy mode should be available.

After all, there's quite nothing like having an over-developed lactating shemale suck you off as you and your PA work on slowly taking over the other Arcologies in such a subtle manner that when you bring down the axe, only those "in charge" will know the truth and know what you will do if they fuck up.

  3. So this is my first time writing anything here and as such I am unclear how to accurately report a bug so I will wing it.

    In the past two versions (0.8.7 & 0.8.6) whenever I perform a surgery the text is displayed twice and the devotion and trust effects are applied twice to the slave.

  7. And now I will complain not out of malice, but out of interest. The last months I'm feeling the updates have been meaningless. Too many paragraphs to describe -in my opinion- very few substantial changes. With a little luck, come December and version 1.0, is this still going to be the state of the game? An economic simulator with no substantial end game? And I'm not talking about a definitive "End Game" screen, but things to do in the game like the Daughters events chain.

    1. Think your misunderstanding. Your not buying controlling interest in the Free City. Only in Your arcology. In a 3 arcology free city. X-1, X-2, X-3. X-1 being yours. You start with 50% controlling interest of X-1, you can buy and sell this controlling interest, but that only affects your ownership of your arcology, not the controlling ownership of X-2 or X-3. They have separate ones.

  12. bane, like we here talking about on the other post, i know why you get rep from the brothel, i think it happens with all of the facilities. when you reach the main screen you get rep from all of your prestigious slaves, but only the once you can see, in order to get the others you have to go into their respective facility. but for some reason if you dont get the rep it starts to stack until you do.

    2. rather then every slave adding its rep to a single value that is then being added at the main screen, every slave adds its rep individualy, or so i belive

      depending on how you add slaves in the code the problem might lie in the inheritens of code from master slave class

    3. i believe in the master code it says to add the rep to the players rep once the slaves code is access and drawn on the screen, rather then there is a command that checks every slave and adds its rep to a counter that later is added to the player rep

    8. as i said i dont know squat about html, and an undocumented code is a nightmare, but if the game has master slave code check that.

      but as i also said the main problem might be how the game reads slave data and how it allocates all the stats, as from what i can see everything has to be written out in order for it to happen, like if you get money it says so, if you get rep it says so, if some slave stats changes it says so.

      so in order for you to get the rep it has to write it out, but since it doesnt write/read the slave data until you check the facility you wont get it until it does.

      what i mean is if you have a slave named X, and she is prestigious, it has to write "prestigious" on the screen befor you get the rep for it.

    9. There is tons of stuff, variables being set to various values that you don't see while playing the game, just like any programming language. And in a way having the code mixed with what a player sees is kinda self documenting as to what the code is doing. If FC Author wanted code and display text to be seperated it could be done as such in a lot of cases.

    10. just get yourself a single prestigious slave, end week and once you get to the main page you can see you get some rep, now place the slave in a facility, end week and once in main you can see your prestige didnt change once the main page was loading in, but then click on the facility and after its loaded you got some rep from the slave

    12. I've got several prestigious slaves, Yeah at end of week I'll gain rep maybe, sometimes I lose rep as well. I don't have to wait to get to main to see if I lost rep or not as it's updated at the time of change on the side bar, for both the Slave summary and Economics pages, and then any event(s) after you click continue. None of the facilities even read $rep, much less write to it. The only thing accessing $rep while in a facility is the sidebar code that give the live update of things.
      And all it does is making sure $rep is not under 0 and not over 20000. so if the value is within bounds it doesn't get written to (set $rep to Math.clamp(Math.trunc($rep), 0, 20000)) just read for displaying.

And the code that is displaying the slaves summary to the screen in the facilities is the exact same code that is displaying them in the Main Menu. so any $rep gains or losses would also be able to be done from the main menu as well. An since I spend way to long the other day sitting in Main hitting 'F5' over and over again to make sure walkbys was working right (an something still got past me lol). An not once did rep change.

    14. There is another reason as to why you might be having such issues. What are you using for a browser? If it's Internet Exploder, I mean Internet Explorer then there are incompatibilities with Sugarcube, that and maybe even some of the JavaScript code used in the game. Or even if you are using an older version of any other of the browsers out there, ther might be JavaScript issues.

    16. If it's version 38+ then yes it's clear, at least for the JavaScript functions/methods I've looked up. Here's the list of minimum requirements for JavaScript compatibility.

      Google Chrome >= 38
      Firefox >= 25
      Internet Explorer >= Nope. (thought the newest versions on winblows 10 might work)
      Opera >= 25
      Safari >= 7.1

      An since I'm an optimizer here's the speed test I did to find out what browser is the fastest with JavaScript, it was just a simple loop test not everything from JS was tested

      From the slowest to the fastest;
      Internet Exploder v11.0.34 lowest 10,022ms, highest 10,323ms. Average 10,1101ms
      Pale Moon v26.4.1 x32 lowest 10,028ms, highest 10,136ms. Average 10.0832ms
      Pale Moon v26.4.1 x64 lowest 9,597ms, highest 9,639ms. Average 9.608ms
      FireFox v48.0.2 x64 lowest 2,562ms, highest 2,644ms. Average 2.6016ms
      Opera v40.0.2308 x32 lowest 1,687ms, highest 1,739ms. Average 1.7118ms
      Chrome v53.02785.116 m x64 lowest 1,638ms, highest 1,676ms. Average 1.6612ms

      So FF using the asm.js to speed up JavaScript does work. An since FF is using the chrome engine it would seem Opera and Chrome now also are using asm.js. Pale Moon is using FF's old engine, and IE is using it's own. All versions are the newest except maybe IE.

    17. im using chrome, but i think the problem still lies in that all the events/code changes are always written on the screen, which might make stuff not written on the screen not happen, like if it doesnt write prestigious on the screen you dont get rep for it. i have around 15 prestigious slaves in my brothel and i get about 400 rep every week i check on the brothel, and for every week i skip i get 400 more, so 2 weeks are 800, 3 are 1200 etc

If your seeing stuff like $prestige $rep or _varname, on screen then yeah the variables are not being updated as then they are either NaN'ed or they are not being considered as variables by Sugarcube, which usually happens when someone doesn't use NGP or a new game when required to. Sugarcube will see the uninitialized variables as plain text to display. Which will start to NaN variables out as soon as the game tries to do any math with those uninitialized variables, or run code it's not supposed to because a variable is not set (though this should give an error msg variable undefined/not found).

    22. nether does the furniture now. so altest that is not present in this version but still the stacking rep is still a problem, its almost like every week there is a value with the rep that increases by a set amount depending on how prestigious the slave is, but it doesnt add that value to player rep and then set the slave rep to 0, unless the slave is written out.

      from what iv seen there are two places a slave can give rep without there being a event, during the main screen thing and during the week recap, and nether are being given for the slaves in facilities, so the rep just starts to stack. so the rep is being given properly the only error is that it doesnt add it to the player rep until the slave is being written out.

    23. the simple solution is just to ether just make so once it loads the main, to go through the slave list once without writing them out, or you could just write every single page form the start so you never really have to open new pages, meaning that the main and all of the facilities are on the same page. just that facilities are layered on top when you open them. and if you access a slave you just layer that page on top the rest.

      Building up rep shouldn't harm the game unless it gets into the billions or trillions. then it might cause an overflow. Furniture?

      Rep gets calculated just before the weekly slave summary screen for each slave, and last I checked the bonus/malus just gets added/subtracted from the actual rep, no build up to be saved for later. Not sure if it does calculate the slaves in facilities rep or not, and I can see at least a few of them where it probably should not be. Since prestige should only apply to slaves who are being seen by the public eye, slaves in the cellblock, diary etc should not be giving a bonus for prestige, but ones in the brothel, club should be.
      Then the games moves onto economics and again applies a rep bonus/malus.

    25. Ah I think I might of finally found what you been talking about! From what I see there is a possible rep bonus being applied to slaves if their trust and or devotion is over 20. So yeah this could seem like it's a build up as slaves in facilities don't get their devotion and trust capped between -20 and 20, as I found out when fixing that NaN error last week, I seen slaves with their trust as high as +27. I've not tested things yet to see if this is the case but probably is.

      I found this as I was writing up code to do maintenance on the facility workers today, or better known to me as .assignmentVisible 0 slaves.

      But this should apply to all slaves in any facility not just the brothel, if their devotion or trust is above 20.
      So this issue is getting addressed I'm not sure when it'll be ready though as I gotta test it to make sure it works right, but for the most part I'm just cutting and pasting code so what could go wrong, besides twine not publishing to file for me right (have to shut it down and restart it constantly to get it to publish the right code as it for some reason is not using the new code till I restart it Arrgg), just about anything lol. Was hoping to have it ready for todays release but with twine acting up on me it might not be.

Request: Cheat start option that just gives you tons of money at generation for starting slaves but doesn't turn on debug mode, doesn't grant you the pre-set end-tier slaves and doesn't start with a customized rule assistant. Most times I just want extra starting cash and then I have to go through the trouble of changing settings and selling slaves.

      Open the html with notepad or some such, search for "set $cash to 10000" (without the quotation marks) and change that value to whatever you want to start out with. If it's a New Game Plus search for "set $cash to 5000" instead.

  15. Bug: the fucking security mod is still breaking the arcology's GSP.

    Also I'm glad the option to restore ballsacks was added. May I suggest an option to surgically restore a slave's foreskin too? Currently the only way to do that is by implanting a new penis on them, which forces you to remove their old penis along with their testicles.

      Now regarding the security mod GSP breaking bug, is the anon guy in charge of it not working with you guys anymore? I mean it hasn't been addressed yet and that bug has been there for quite a while if you take into account that the only reason it wasn't showing up was because some typos were stopping it's code from running.

  16. Would it be possible/worth the work to make the "erection is possible-cap" be somehow linked to a slaves bodysize?
    For example slaves above 2 meters height can still pop a boner with a 45cm dick? Space Marine sized slaves with functional arm sized dicks who ruin other slaves holes when?

      Slaves will age naturally. Disable aging This option cannot be changed during the game.
      This is found in the World Settings screen.

  27. It seems to be impossible to set up the RA so that all but one of your slaves are affected by one rule, and then one slave gets a different rule.

    Example: I want my general slave pool to be plush, with pink hair done up in long twintails, and be generally toned under their plushness. However, this isn't a good state for a Bodyguard. What I've had to do in the past is completely exclude the Bodyguard prospect from the RA and just manually monitor their muscles to the right level, then get things straightened out. But I figured with the new RA system I could set up a rule just for them. So I set up one rule, called "General Appearance" that is on "Always", and has the one Bodyguard prospect set as an Excluded slave for the rule. I set up the general cosmetic, food, and muscle parameters, saved it, and created a new rule.
    For the next rule, I created another Always rule, and tried to make it select only the Bodyguard prospect to target. This was the first problem; even if you've only selected one slave, it continually says that the rule is affecting ALL slaves. It can't seem to understand that you're only wanting it to affect only one-- unless you also tell it to exclude at least one slave. THEN it'll show that you've got the rule targeting specific slaves, plus excluding slaves. (It doesn't help anything, but at least it's saying it does.) After that, went down and set just the parameters I wanted for my Bodyguard slave, saved it, and went back to the main menu since I had things set to automatically apply to slaves.
    There, I was greeted by a ton of red error lines, and no changes to my Bodyguard slave. Or any of the other ones, which I suppose is good, but still.

    In theory, the updated RA should be giving us a lot more control over fine-tuning slaves, but in practice things just seem to be getting odder. Slaves hitting Accepting but refusing to change out of their Ambivalent outfits until I change their assignment, pubic hair settings that won't take effect unless you also set the color of the pubic hair... the Arcology is buggy as heck these days. :\

  30. The Market Assistant seems broken, as in not functioning correctly. I had 50,000 money, no menial slaves, and set the Market Assistants minimum to 5,000,000. At the screen where it documents changes related to the arcology my funds jumped up to 4,999,819.

    Li helps manage your other slaves. She helps them when they try and fail, and punishes them when they fail to try.   36. I really hope the arcology ownership thing gets balanced in the future.

    At the moment it feels like it's controlled by those old strategy video game AIs which basically cheated by giving themselves more resources and making gameplay seem "harder" while in fact there's no actual strategy coded on the AI besides it dog piling on you as best as it can.

    I hope that in the future more "major" share holders are thrown into the game and make them buy/sell their holdings with each other to make gameplay more varied. Right now it feels pretty unfair given how the other major holder buys shares that go for ¤40-¤70k (and it only goes up) every 2-3 turns. I haven't really gotten far yet on this version (I'm still at week number 14) but my "rival" (I'll call it that for the moment) already owns 30% of the arcology from the 20% they started with in such an early stage of the game.

    For now though, I suggest the rate at which the other arcology holder buys space becomes relative to your arcology's prosperity, that way it doesn't make it feel like they got an early start in the race.

    Now can once again use the options in the slaves Long Description after using have sex with relative/lover. Also made a couple of other corrections to the passage. Also fixes my error with the concubine text display for walk byes.

    Also included more Walk by fixes namely saving the slaves data that were involved. Spelling corrections and updated sex act counters for the game and slave to match with the description better. This will also affect the sex acts in the slaves long descriptions, to be correct.

    Not everything for the Walk Byes/Long description has been done as of yet but I'm about half way there. Fixes Abuse her, Relations/lover/friends, Rivals. Play with Boobs/Butt.

    This also includes the above fixes/changes by CornCobMan.

    3. 90-60-90 is a figure, not breast size. You could theoretically have 90-60-90 and a completely flat chest, just a really wide ribcage and a thin waist.

      In earlier versions FC just had a simple system of A-B-C-D-DD, but FCAuthor reworked it after researching implants, sizes, and how all that stuff works in reality.

      I can see both sides of the argument with whether to show numerical details like this. One one hand, it's nice to be able to see what's going on exactly, but on the other it can get confusing. Maybe, the initial description should just describe the size in general terms (flat - small - medium - big - huge - enormous - immobilizing), but then you can have an action to take the girl to get measured exactly to see a full detailed report on her?

      Come to think of it, this would be an awesome way to break up the wall of text description we have right now! First page, a short, very general description of appearance, and then action links to "Ask about her past", "Undress her and examine closely", "Study her tattoos and piercings", "Full medical examination and report".

  54. 2 bugs I noticed so far: firstly when you go in cheat mode, you meow get 2 copies of each of the free girls. i made one of my created characters into a body guard and took both miss lily's off bodyguard duty. next round i had 3 bodyguards somehow. 2 miss lily and the one i assigned. second bug is when the slave's sexuality is unknown, and she is devoted, she will always choose to be a servant, unless she's uneducated. shouldn't her choice be based on her hidden sexuality? it's not like her sexuality doesn't exist, i just haven't discovered it yet.

    As a result of economic warfare, GSP can hit 0. Predictably, this wrecks things, specifically population (-58119 citizens, 61922 sex slaves, and 5597 menial slaves live in...). It also breaks rep - I went from ~10k to 20k in a second, but lost all societal development on a second option.

    The week after, citizens climbed back up into positives (90) while slaves dropped a bit (55720). Rep is still 20k, but two of the 4 society projects failed outright - one of which was fresh, while the other was being supported near max level.

    Heading forward, rep continues to hover near or at max, and 2 of 4 social projects are still failing. Cashflow is mostly OK, but rents can dip into negatives.

    Anyway, point is, there's got to be some sort of a limiting factor to AI hateboners for your social development, or at least a game over for GSP 0 (despite a personal wealth of half a million).

  66. The security force mod breaks GSP because of the code just under this comment: "If focus is secure trade, 80% of the above is added to the players rep/prosperity. Else, 25%." The code there is setting the prosperity to the modifier instead of adding the modifier to the prosperity.

    DETAILED EXPLANATION:

    An excerpt from this code reads as follows:

    set $arcologies[0].prosperity to (Math.trunc($arcologies[0].prosperity*($securityForceTrade*0.8)))

    GSP is printed on the sidebar with this code: print Math.trunc(0.1*$arcologies[0].prosperity), thus I assume that when I have a visible GSP of 10m, that means $arcologies[0].prosperity = 100. $securityForceTrade starts calculations at a whopping 0.025, where it stays if the player has no upgrades. Therefore, $arcologies[0].prosperity is set by this code to (100*(0.025*0.8)), which equals 2. The sidebar multiplication of 0.1 makes the value 0.2 which is truncated down to 0. (The actual value is even worse since the mod defaults to training which is *0.25 and you can't change that to the secure to get *0.8 until you've seen the screen the bug occurs on.)

    TO FIX IT YOURSELF:

    Users using FC B70 0.8.7.1, the comment in question begins on line 97130. Change all instances of "to" in the if/then block that spans 97131-97140 to "+=" in order to fix the bug.

  68. [BUG]: I'm still finding it impossible to properly isolate a single slave for a different rule in the RA. Exempting a slave from one ruleset and then setting up a separate ruleset specifically for that exempted slave just makes the RA spaz out with a ton of red "Error: <>: bad conditional expression in <> clause: Unexpected end of input" lines, in-between assigning the options I'm trying to apply to both the correct slave and at least one wrong slave. Creating a rule and specifying a single slave seems to confuse it, as once you continue out of the specification screen it still says that the rule applies to all slaves, even though when you go back in to select one, that slave is still selected. If you select a slave and also exempt a slave, THEN it shows up properly, but only then-- and it still shows the same errors anyway even if you select a slave for a rule, and then exempt everyone else you currently have from that rule.

Total slaves : 11 but I am only able to see 10, I started the game a few times but after some time I start missing 1 or 2 slaves at random, the first time it happened when the total count was 33 and I had only 30. Anyone else having this issue too?

    1. Ok (O_O") that... makes sense, but I always have them healthy and well fed, so dose this mean they can die randomly???
      And if they die then why is it still showing in expenses list o_O?

    2. Sounds like a bug if you can see them in the cost totals, but not in the game elsewhere. Have you checked all facilities? Characters shouldn't randomly die when healthy, but it's common to get confused when they do die from extremely bad health, because you get no message and they just disappear.

  72. Hello FC author. I started this game a few weeks ago(after it was introduced thru fenoxo's site), and I can't say I'm not hooked. Its really well done, and I'm looking forward to new updates.

    On another note, there is this annoying bug that I tend to encounter, and that is every time a slave gave birth, I'm stuck in a loop, and can't get out no matter how many times I clicked continue.

    I'm not sure if you had known this earlier but it will be superb if you could fix it.

  74. the bunny outfit has weird dialog in the highlight at the bottom of the main, "Emma's teddy conceals cunning stays designed to make her bosom look considerably bigger than it actually is". what is "teddy conceals cunning" supposed to mean?

    also shouldn't it say something more like "Emma's (outfit/clothes) (is/are) designed to make her bosom look considerably bigger than it actually is"?

    2. "Emma's teddy conceals cunning stays" is the correct phrasing. "Stays" as a clothing term refers to things that are meant to keep a particular piece of clothing in place. In the case of a playboy bunny style outfit on a girl with small breasts, the bust area will need something to make sure that it doesn't slip off, since the small breasts alone wouldn't be big enough to keep it in place. Cunning because the stays are designed to be discreet, so that it won't be seen by a casual glance.
