ALPHA 0.10.3: Constant Flow

This is another broad update without a specific focus, combining contributions from many different people. I'll spotlight one area, though, since it's something that's gotten a fair amount of well-merited criticism lately: future society progression. All society models are not created equal in terms of ease of progression. To help ease that, and add more interesting choices to the game, this update makes societies progress faster the fewer societies have been chosen. In the early game, when only a single model has been selected, it's a major boost to that single goal. Later, when four or five models are active, things are more sluggish, but by then the player should have the resources to overcome that. Additionally, Shops can now be upgraded into future society specific versions, adding some flavor and helping advancement. Finally, PC reputation now impacts future society progress directly, providing an incentive to raise reputation in the early game.

There are many contributors doing great work on GitHub, and it would be invidious to single anyone out without making it clear that everyone's doing great work and no special status is being conferred. But FreeCitiesBandit deserves recognition for providing no less than 11 new events included in this update. Fine work.

Saves from previous versions are incompatible, but 
0.6+ saves are eligible for New Game Plus. The vector artpack has received a minor expansion with version 0.10.3.

  • Surplus future society progress will now overflow into external influence from several sources which would not previously participate there.

    BUG: on the individual slave page, clothing options appear twice - both under "Appearance" and between "Behavior" and "Relationship rules". The second instance appears improperly formatted (no line breaks, wrong underlining) and is probably the extraneous one.

  2. I'm not that great at coding. Can someone tell me what code to search for to change the Stacked breast cap from 1000cc to maybe 1600cc. 1000cc is good, but I'd like my girls to be really big but not massive.

    Also, have you consider the option of adding masks? Especially for ugly slaves.

  3. I'm sure you've received this question before, but would it be possible for the slaver to enslave their own family? It could be limited to just a couple of events, or it could be developed into a whole new story branch, delving into the slaver's past.

  4. 10.3.1, New Game, Arcology Engineering and A Judicious Application of Funds.

    After roughly 15 weeks, I get 1200 reputation every week for no discernible reason. Haven't enacted any policies, hadn't started any Future Society, had only one girl on Public Servant duty. The extra reputation appears when the new week starts, i.e. right after the economic report and events are finished.

      But I decided to help you two out. I had a look at the .save file to see if there's something different going on.
      Well, you have 3 perfectly conditioned servants... did they reach this state around week 15? Because that would coincide with my observations.
      I advanced one week, you got a rep boost of 1070 at the beginning of week 19 as expected.
      Advanced another week and -nothing. No change at the start of the week. Okay... that's... different.
      Either they changed this to a one-time effect for each servant (if your three servants reached perfect behavior over 3 weeks it could explain the boost)

      I'm dead wrong and something else is at work here.

      I'll test again with my own file to see what's going on.
      I almost always make a .save at the beginning of each in-game week so I'll be able to check absolutely every possible condition.

    3. *UPDATE*

      While I'm still not sure why you stopped getting rep boosts after week 19, I did retest week 18 of your save after deleting your 3 best girls. Sure enough, there was no rep increase at the start of week 19. This definitely has something to do with the rep overflow for flawless slaves. I got the same results on my own save.

      The Dev is looking into it. Thanks for reporting this.

    4. Thanks to you for shining some light on what the issue is. I know that on some weeks, it doesn't trigger a massive rep increase, but then on others it does again. Haven't been able to figure out a pattern, and playing like this is no fun, so I haven't looked into it further.

  7. I'm glad to see that the hair fixes I submitted for the vector mod have been officially incorporated.
    ...Though there's still some work to be done.

    OVERSIGHT:
    There are no in-game options to dye hair purple or dirty blonde. It isn't much use adding these colors to the vector mod if we can't use them, eh?
    (If you want to use them anyway, simply set the slave's custom hair color to purple or dirty blonde via the customize menu.)

    BUG:
    While we're on the subject of hair dye... Red, green, blue, and pink hair dye options are still missing from the auto salon. They've been replaced by blazing red, neon green, neon blue, and neon pink. I know I've already mentioned this, but it bears repeating because it breaks some things. Selecting these neon variants won't work with the vector mod because there are no .svg files with these names.
    Pubic hair color options haven't changed, the game still generates slaves with natural red hair, and some of the pre-made slaves utilize plain old green, blue, and pink colors, so why create this inconsistency?

    FC Author, please tell me why this change was made, thank you.

    TIP:
    If any of you want to make those neon hair variants usable in the vector art mod, simply copy the hair fore and hair aft .svg files for red, green, blue, and pink, then rename them to match the new colors in the auto salon. The files are located in resources\vector\body\addon
    (If you can't be bothered, then use the customize menu in-game to set hair color manually.)

    BUG:
    The following .svg files are redundant and should be removed:

  8. Now on to non-hair matters...

    *I have figured out what is up with reputation inexplicably skyrocketing!*
    ...At least in version 0.10.2.2, but I suspect that it is the same for version 0.10.3.1.

    -From my observations, reputation ALWAYS spikes drastically when your first slave gains perfect devotion and trust.
    *This is why it occurs at differing times for different games.

    -These reputation boosts occur at the start of each week instead of the end.

    -The boosts occur over several weeks, perhaps infinitely.

    -Additional slaves with flawless conditioning will drive the weekly reputation boost up even higher.

    -The amount of reputation gained over time seems WAAAY out of proportion with the credits and effort invested. Training a prize courtesan isn't exactly hard, just time consuming.

    FC Author, is this intended or is it a BUG?

    1. With perfect devotion and trust, gains to devotion and trust are going to overflow into rep. However, it sounds like this isn't WIP; the effect is supposed to be small. I'll experiment.

    2. Yep, it's definitely got something to do with that.

      I tried advancing my save as usual in new game+ and gained 4250 rep at the start of the 2nd week. (And the same amount the week after.)

      I tried that 1st week over again after deleting my 4 best girls, no rep increase at the start of the 2nd week.

      4250 reputation divided by 4 adoring courtesans equals 1062.5 reputation per girl PER WEEK. Geez.

      I knew about the rep overflow, but I always assumed that happened at the end of the turn, not the beginning of the next turn. Took me until a week ago to finally make the connection. Better late than never I guess.

  9. Description of Aztec Revivalist Law says, it helps during crisises, but the code for Daughters of Liberty's attack ignores Aztec Law, only checking for Roman Law (as before).
    Is it intended that way?

Its as if the game is mistaking them for breast milk implants which I am finding very irritating dealing with when trying to have separate milk cows and cum bulls. Clicking the "implant slow release productivity drugs" link in the remote surgery next to the prostrate description just gives breast milk implants and no prostate implants at all.

  14. Bug: If you disable the granular stat numbers for devotion and trust, it also removes the more generalized text for those stats on the summary screen. So if you want to see if a slave is 'devoted' or 'accepting' you have to either enable the number display or click on each individual slave. (I personally dislike the numbers)

  16. The RA still has the same issue as the versions before:
    including and excluding facilities doesn't work.
    example: obedient slaves get, let's say black hair. the diary gets excluded
    diary slaves should get pink hair... rule applies only to the diary

    but at the end of the week ALL slave's Hair gets dyed first black, then pink.. (and all the other options in the RA)
    please take a look at the issue... it's such a nice feater to give slaves outfits, tattoos, plugs depending on the facility they are in

  18. Couple of thoughts on Future Society shops:

    1) There is no way to straight-up decommission one. Player has to turn a shop into club/brothel, then decommission THAT facility in order to end up with a base shop. When both a club and a brothel already exist, this results in no way to decommission the FS shop without first destroying one of the other two.

    2) There is no indication inside the store's page when the FS shop stops being useful in advancing a society and starts generating rep. Please consider adding a line to the FS shop screen that would indicate the relevant future society's current progress level. Something along the lines of "The citizens of your arcology regard this shop with indifference/curiosity/as a fad/as a fixture of the community/as a self-evident example of your FS choices' superiority" (last one for maxed FS + rep overflow) would give the player immediate feedback on the FS shop's benefit.

  19. BUG? - the relatively new Chattel Religion event says something to the effect of "any excess council influence will convert into general rep", but rep does not change even if there is influence left over when the council is concluded. Does the rep get added somewhere else behind the scenes?

  21. BUG - "slave offering to sit on PC's lap" RESS event.

    If triggering slave doesn't have a relevant preference/fetish when the player goes with the "Let her do what she wants" choice, the first sentence of the 2nd output paragraph ends up as a run-on with missing bits:

    "Finally making her decision, she She can't really think of how to accommodate the situation to her own preferred approach to sex, so she just services you like a good girl."

In regards to royal blood event, one thing that I think is missing is a option to buy the whole royal court, queen, handmaidens, prince and princess all, at say a 25% or 33% total cash price increase and X5 rep cost increase, for basically going for a full royal transplant to the owners arcology.

  25. Using version 10.3.1: When assigning slaves to the pit, the game stops on the assign page (i.e. doesn't return to the slave list to assign more slaves). This is merely annoying: hitting space takes you back to menu, and the slave has properly been assigned, it just makes filling the fight roster out a hassle.

  27. BUG - Daughters of Liberty plot event triggers for an undefined slave.

    " ! Error: << if >>: bad conditional expression in << if >> clause: State.variables.activeSlave is undefined "

    Mouseover/inspect element shows " << if (ndef $active.Slave.ID) >> "

    There are additional errors on the page, but they're related to the fact that the game doesn't know if the triggering slave is able to talk.

    1. And, if it repeats enough, in the 'cheat edit' the slave ends up having a negative butt size. If the butt size is negative when and you remove butt implants manually, the auto surgery set to remove butt implants will give her butt implants and then start trying to remove them again.

  31. Alright, this has happened more than once on several different versions, playthroughs, play styles(abusive.caring mistress/master) and play lengths. The end result seems to be inconsistent with what's happening and I haven't pinned down its cause as of yet but it is game breaking to say the least.

    At some point during my arcology's development the upkeep costs go from around ¤4500 to ¤1.5005002001002e+36, the "+n" differs every time it happens. It happens with all sorts of events from getting a new slave, to upgrading the acrcology, to screwing a slave, to changing ones clothes.

    I don't know what causes this but I can't load a previous save either, the high upkeep sticks through and I have to restarts the browser. I'm using the latest version with the rendering image pack and this is new but I've recently been running with the cybernetics mod although that shouldn't be a deciding factor as this happens on runs without mods. The error slave doesn't appear when this happens either.

    Do you think it's a glitch or bug?

  32. Bug?: When I tell slaves to choose their own assignment, in v10.2 it would change their job description to the specific job. In v10.3, it continually says "will choose her own job" even after a job was chosen and has stuck. This results in the week end stuff always saying "[Slave-Name] was assigned to whore. She watches your other slaves to decide what to do, happy to be permitted a choice and a little more confident than if you had just given her orders. The pregnant slave decides to become a whore, mostly to suck cock." - It's the same for any job chosen by the slave.

    3. Well, one way of doing it would be to de-emphasize slaves' attraction to men and have attraction to women weigh more. Relationships between slaves who both have a pussy and no dick could be rewarded, as could relationships between PCs who have a pussy and not a dick and slaves who have a pussy and not a dick. Slaves with dicks could be viewed as unacceptable. Much like how Gender Fundamentalists hate having a feminine PC, PCs with dicks could be drastically penalized. Paralleling Gender Fundamentalism, the capstone policy could be universal banishment or enslavement and transformation for all dick-havers in the arcology. So there's possibilities. If you're only talking about a FS where men remain in charge but lesbianism is fetishized, though, well, that's pretty much already the norm (slaves in a relationship already attract more business if they work together), so that seems fairly pointless.

      The biggest obstacle to a meaningful lesbian FS is that someone would have to go through and eliminate or edit every single reference to a masculine character or a non-dildo penis. I mean, to take it to its logical extreme you might even feel compelled to eliminate the strap-ons too. That would be a lot of tedious work that would only ever be noticed by players using that one FS. It's one of the reasons the dev has ruled out featuring slaves who use masculine pronouns and such, to the extent of backfilling the lore to justify all sex slaves being treated as feminine.

      Personally, I'm in favor of a lesbian feminist separatist FS (like I said before, anything less than that is pretty much already in the game) because it would be transgressive and interesting. A gay male FS where both masculine slaves and citizens are favored would be similarly interesting. But who knows if it would be popular enough to be worth the trouble.

    Every section is filled with errors such as "Error: <>: bad conditional expression in <> clause: Cannot read property 'lactation' of undefined"
    It seems that not only is the variables for each section not set, but $currentRule.surgery itself isn't set.

  39. Hey, I've noticed that I have 9 slaves sleeping in the Penthouse. You're saying 'and...' right? AND the problem is that I have 6.5 slaves using normal or spare beds, and 2.5 in the luxurious beds. I don't think that's supposed to happen. Any idea what's going on?

    1. Assumingit isnt a bug, that happenes when slaves are in a relationship. One belongs in a spare room, but is sharing a nice one with her girlfriend.

    2. Logistically I'm guessing this equates to the slave assigned to the spare is using the spare room but the lux bed (or maybe the other way around). However, when there's enough of these, you effectively end up with extra rooms when effectively that would mean non-relationship slaves are sharing a room.
      For clarity, perhaps it would be good to have an additional behavior/relationship slave setting (under the room assignment) for whether the slave can live in their lover's room. This would clarify the odd room numbering and provide control for forcing disobedient slaves to use the spare rooms while obedient slaves can share lux rooms.

      BUG - RESS breast inspection passage, one with "give her a massage/use her so they swing around/show her off in public" options, includes this sentence at the end of the setup paragraph before the choices:

      "As you inspect her with your hands, she breathes a little harder and looks like she would speak, were she not mute."

      The triggering slave is not actually mute. Her lips aren't even large enough for lisping, and her language rules are set to accent elimination rather than no speech at all.

      Could the sentence be showing up because the slave can't speak the arcology's language? In that case, "can't speak arcology language" and "can't speak at all" should be differentiated.

  46. I got a couple things here:

    1.) Setting your first FS choice as a racial supremacy arcology will automatically give you a second FS choice called "0 inferiority" which counts as having a second FS option for advancing multiple FS but isn't upradgeable, you can delete this option to unlock a sixth FS option

    2.) Ginger hair should really get the beauty bonus from freckles that red hair+freckles does since when it was implemented you couldn't have ginger hair but now that you can and it's even viewable on the vector art models I don't see why it shouldn't be reflected in the code since the red hair is literal red hair not "redhead" hair

    3.) Anyone got any tips on keeping Brothels more relevant in the late game? I seem to start off as having sexual services only on moderate demand but then by mid game it's down to low and I'm really missing out on some cash in that department because of it I imagine.

    4.) Is there a way I can keep my slave's hair at a certain length? I'm having to manually cut all of it every few weeks so it's not dragging along the floor and it's starting to drive me slowly insane

    1. Tips for keeping the brothel more profitable:
      1. Match the whores to your FS. Then advertise. If I remember the formula correctly, the optimum amount is 1000 for every two whores. If you spend more, you make less money after factoring the advertising cost in.
      2. Apply policies that attracts new citizens and reduce domestic slavery. Demand is determined by the ratio of citizens/slaves. Err, your personal slaves aren't counted here.
      3. The money whores get is attractiveness x sexual score. One of the bigger modifiers is the madame. A good madame is will add to attractiveness. Some types of reputation too (legendary whore, public slut, cow, and futa).

    1. Known bug. Should have someone working on it. Currently I suspect someone forgot to automatically convert the inputted value when pressing Back. Until someone adds the necessary code back in (it used to have them), try pressing enter after inputting the value instead of clicking on Back immediately. Might work as a work-around. Sorry, can't test.

  49. Two BUGS in the final Daughters of Liberty event.

    A) When the setup text uses male pronouns, the resulting slave is female. When the pronouns are female, the slave is (formerly) male.

    B) The event leads to next week's main screen immediately after pressing Continue. The hostage / "psychological warfare tool" is never enslaved, probably because the enslavement page is skipped.

    1. Above is still present in 3.5, and more weird than I realized (because I stopped playing at the bug rather than seeing it through earlier).

      The rival enslavement event's CONTINUE now kicks the player not to NEXT week's main screen, but to the last viewed screen. I noticed this because, when loading the save and ending week, I would see the main screen; but when I went into a facility page before heading out and ending week, I would see the facility screen. In both cases, the week # did not advance.

      After acquiring the rival, END WEEK functioned normally. The week # advanced and the hostage acquisition event fired.

      So the issue at hand is that something's off with the CONTINUE link in the rival event.

  50. I'm getting a weird bug around week 150+, where between the slave report and the weekly report screens, I lose about 90% of my cash. I get about 80% of what I lost back the next week but it happens every few weeks, more and more rapidly. it makes the endgame unplayable

    2. I started a new run and got it again after changing a few things; it's not based on the corporation, or purchasing other arcologies. I think it has something to do with funding future societies, I defunded them and haven't gotten it in a little while.

  51. 1)Waiting for a child of a slave to turn 18 would be like waiting the PC itself to turn into a dinosaur and possibly a fossil if they're older already.

    2)What about growth acceleration research like full growth of a slave's child in just like 2 or 5 years, but then you'll still need to educate them properly since they only have a body of an 18 year old with fully functional hormones but with a knowledge of a 4 year old.

  52. I don't know if this has been brought to your attention, but I set the rules assistant to no hormones for all of my rules, but the only way for me to get the slaves to stop using hormones is to set them to no hormones myself.

  53. Finally had a chance to play the latest update. Absolutely love it! Big improvement from version 9. However, it seems to have slowed down back to how it used to be in previous versions. Might be a bit faster but it still takes some time to load at the beginning and end of the week.

    Anyway, my comment isn't about that. My question is in regards to the "events" the PC is failing to make that gets mentioned in the report about your reputation. What is this?!?!? I thought it was the pits so I built one and. . . nothing. No mention of the pit nor does it seem to count as an event. I put my bodyguard in on of the slots and again, nothing mentioned. Am I forgetting something?? I thought that putting my bodyguard there would allow my citizens to challenge me each week but nope. I even made the admission be free so no extra cash to be made. So why?? Where is the events that the PC is supposed to make???

    How do I sacrifice slaves for reputation? And, lateral suggestion, can we have an option to execute slaves? Publicly for fun and/or reputation (based on FS of course) or privately with our stock for devotion/fear adjustments?

  55. One of my slaves in the Brothel is an aphrodisiac addict and always suffers withdraw despite being set to be on a single aphrodisiac and that cost being listed in upkeep.
    I checked the code and from the brothel's facility based rule change block it looks like the brothel is hard coded to only allow no aphrodisiacs or double aphrodisiacs (with the drug upgrade improvement active).
    I had thought that the drug update only performed a +1 (capped at 2) to the aphrodisiac dose, and certainly didn't think the brothel had such hardcoded restrictions.

  58. Are there specific careers that would make a slave better for the Concubine & Recruiter positions? I've seen careers that would make a slave better for the other leadership positions, and would just like to know if there are specific careers for the positions mentioned earlier. Thanks!

    1. A Concubine with the career "an arcology owner" will give you an extra 250 reputation on top of the normal reputation gain.

      No career has any impact for the Recruiter position.

  59. INCONSISTENCY - the rival's arcology (from the Daughters of Liberty plotline) is supposed to oppose all of the player's FS choices and pick their opposites. The Pastoralism Future Society is presented in the game as diametrically opposed to Physical Idealism. Yet, when I pick Pastoralism and the rival arcology decides to revolt against my cultural influence, they adopt Pastoralism (instead of Physical Idealism) alongside their other choices, the rest of which are diametrically opposed to mine.

    If you have a slave which is On the Edge of Death and you take them to the remote surgery to Remove Body Hair they can die of complications in surgery. I guess you really gotta be careful with those electric razors. RIP Marie.

    1. I would ask for this too please! It actually causes the game to lag more if I have a lot of slaves.
      Why not try using a template like the report of the arcology/society progression/reputation report/corporation/etc?

      Can we also remove the excess space from the main menu (left side of the game)while viewing the arcology report? There's no need for the space there and it's annoying as hell to scroll down when I need to save or reload.

    I have a masochistic slave who developed self hatred in the Brothel. Took her out, fix it and placed her in the Club. She developed it again so I didn't fix it and changed her to be a fucktoy. She's not happy with that either. Help!

    Can someone make a list of the paraphilias and where to send slaves to fulfil their needs? PLEASE!

    1. Go to the Free cities window/tab, access the glossary for the game, go to Flaws. It shows each of the Paraphilias and you can click them to see what satisfies them. If any aren't working, it's probably a bug.

  66. There's some kind of bug in the school. I had bought all of the extras for the school, not including extra space for students. I didn't notice at first but my students get this sentence repeated 3 times for ass training.
