ALPHA 0.5.1: "Do No Harm"


Twine and I both have some serious limitations. Twine, for its part, is not at all intended for a management simulation. Meanwhile, I am working with no previous programming experience whatever, meaning that coding decisions made early in the FC development cycle were made with a tiny fraction of the experience I have now. Between the two of us Twine and I can produce some spectacularly inefficient outcomes. Some of these are likely to be intractable given Twine and the time I have available. Others I'll address as I can. Much of my time for this update was spent removing for loops wherever possible, so it should cut down on lag, especially before events.

As FC moves towards 1.0 and really starts to stress Twine and my coding abilities, the goal is to add content that doesn't add code complexity (and thus lag). One area in which I'll specifically call for suggestions is facility upgrades. I'm pleased with how most of these play at present, since they add content without unduly bloating the code. Let me know if you have an idea for how to further refine a facility: good suggestions will be those that result in something more interesting than a simple income boost by changing something more fundamental about how the facility plays.

Another area in which feedback is useful is difficulty, since that's going to become more of a focus in upcoming versions. Playtesting for difficulty is actually quite impossible for me, since I know the code and therefore can't imitate a player who doesn't. The default settings should produce a level of difficulty that isn't too punishing, but does require that the player be awake and paying attention. Let me know.

Submission request: As posted on /d/, I could use some assistance coming up with more and better nicknames. If you've got good nickname ideas leave them in a comment here. As always I'll only add submissions I like; in particular, low-effort racial slurs are unlikely to be included since they're tawdry and boring. (Clever racial and national nicknames are fine.)

0.5.1 Changelog

Major additions:
  • Revised event code. The most significant effect on gameplay is that the player is now eligible for more events per turn than previously: in addition to all other events, a single slave is selected at random to experience an individually focused event, each turn; the game then selects from events for which she qualifies. Slaves in facilities are not eligible for this, giving a degree of control over which slaves appear.
Minor updates:
  • Added a third living standard between spare and luxurious.
  • Increased expense of the luxurious living standard.
  • Added penalties for recruiters and head girls not on luxurious living standards, and applied luxurious living standards to all facility leadership positions.
  • New event for slaves who are not yet broken by the arcade. It is somewhat unkind.
  • One new event for each of the facility heads, for six in total. These events require some of each position's specific stat bonuses to be fulfilled: for example, milkmaids must be healthy and muscular to be eligible for theirs.
  • New prestige event for slaves being cockmilked, very similar to the prestigious cow event.
  • Reduced glory hole income, including for slaves in the arcade; reduced impact of the arcade upgrade; increased cost to build, expand and upgrade the arcade; added minor reputation penalties for having slaves in the arcade.
  • New nonrandom event featuring the nurse that appears in one of the refugee event options, by popular request.
  • Selling slaves in relationships will affect the unsold partner.
  • Quick review of hardcoded slaves to add education and intelligence; their creators are encouraged to correct mistakes there.
  • Spread eight more turns out among preexisting plot events, which are now spaced out until week 60.
  • Bugfixes.

  1. I haven't played yet, but after reviewing the code for the new events, I give a thumbs up.

    that said, I'd like to see an expandable weekly report for each of the facilities, and the slaves working there. As they're out of sight, it can be a little tricky to manage and improve them when we aren't shown their status consistently.

    Since slaves in relationships don't like being parted, we should be able to sell them together.

    I'd like more living standards, preferably on a five-point scale from featureless concrete cell to penthouse suite.

    Differentiation of quirks, as well. Instead of going straight from happy-go-lucky to completely mindbroken, slaves should experience a few stages of depression (which are progressively harder to reverse) before going over the edge.

    As always, awesome update FCDev. This is by far my favorite game.

  5. I was wondering if you would be interested in a synonym function I've set up in twine2/sugarcube2 format. I'm putting together a little project myself, and I figured there would be some overlap; In short, I made widgets for synonyms of common words(dick, tits ect) that randomize on each call. It would be a simple enough thing to implement in your game, and the variation in event/description would enhance the gameplay.

    2. Age lift and lactation implant used on the event-generated nurse initially displayed improper rounding for abbreviated health numbers. After a week on curatives, the HP is now correctly rounded/abbreviated to 1 decimal point, and I can't re-create the issue with other procedures. No guess as to what the exact issue was.

    3. INCONSISTENCY - the "rapist" random event can generate pre-gelded slaves. The "geld then enslave" option is still there, and the text it generates remains unchanged from the usual version when the already-gelded rapist is "re-gelded" via that choice.

  8. For facilities there could be a type upgrade. Like chosing what kind of dairy facility you want. You could raise the upkeep of slaves there by setting up a facility that is more about caring and pampering allowing slaves to reach higher loyality, or a facility change that treats them more like cows then people and gains more from mindbroken girls then free willed. The fighting pit could also have options to focus on sexual wrestling with other upgrades giving slaves access to better training equipment and conditions.

  9. When expanding the arcade, the upkeep detail screen says it increases in maintenance by 500, but it only increases by 250. Likewise, it shows that the arcade upgrade increases upkeep by 900, but instead it only increases by 450.

    Once corrected, I believe a good balance will have been stuck for the Arcade, although I'm not too sure about the efficacy of the Upgrade now. In addition to the upfront upkeep, it also adds additional upkeep per slave from the aphrodisiac regimen. From a few weeks of tests, it looks like it adds about 50-100 increase in profit on normal mode, after accounting for the drug costs but before distributing the overhead added by the upgrade. This means that you'd need 18 inmates to fully distribute the additional overhead so that you're guaranteed to profit from the upgrade, although that's still not accounting for the money that you paid for the upgrade itself.

    By itself though, that's not much of a balancing issue, since the arcade is guaranteed to turn a small but consistent profit each turn with or without the upgrade.

    On hard mode however, the upgrade gives a pretty sizable drop in profits at any number of inmates, since the absurd 300 standard drug cost exceeds the highest possible profit increase that the upgrade can give a single slave.

    Also, bodyguard end of week summaries contain multiple errors.

    3. Rep loss is a ratio based on the amount of gross income made from the Arcade. If you've been stuffing dozens upon dozens of inmates into there, it will need a fair bit of offsetting.

  10. The difficulty after the income being reduced is more about playing how you have to then how you want to. In order to clear the content you need large sums of cash before events trigger. For me since girls in facilities provide less then on the main page I dont use them until I clear the main content. This makes certain jobs far better then others early game due to lower upkeep costs and higher output. While the game is still playable and beatable there are a few less options to do so while making the choices the player wants.

    1. I think that maybe the events need to be spread out a bit more. Right now the final plot event fires at around Week 60 IIRC, but maybe it should be pushed back to Week 80 or 90. This would let all the earlier events get spread out a bit so you don't hit that big hump in the early-mid Week 20s and suddenly need to have 25k+ for 3 quick events (shotgun match, hire mercs, R&D raid)

A easier way would have it say something like 'X desperately implores you to sell her to the same buyer that bought Y' on the selling screen, and have something on the end-of-day that triggers if she still hasn't been sold that has her reacting to the selling of her friend/lover/wife.

  13. There's something weird about the new living standard. There are supposed to be three, but the game seems to think there are four: Spare, normal, standard, and luxurious. Sometimes selecting "normal" from the list results in "normal", and sometimes "standard". Only the former functions properly, the latter acts like "spare" is selected.

  16. In my opinion, something is off about hormone-induced changes to certain appearance traits.

    For the last couple of versions, I've found it very hard to modify shemale slaves' facial attractiveness and genital size through female hormones. Even slaves with the ugliest faces and the highest hormone dosage never seem to hit attractiveness improvements, while the genital changes appear to trigger with something like a 1/16 likelihood (based on experimenting through the number of page refreshes). Genitals don't seem to get affected at all once the TOTAL dick/ball size is low enough, which has led to slaves whose balls never retreat into their abdomens.

    I understand the trigger % chance was tweaked so slaves' appearance wouldn't instantly degenerate the moment hormonal medication balance changes, but I feel (from the player side of things, without looking at the code) that something is off in this part of the game.

    1. I've been considering this as well, and I believe what is happening is that the natural +1 masculine hormones from having functional testicles is offsetting the artificial +2 feminine hormones, making it impossible to reach +2 feminine hormones where the more dramatic changes happen.

      It's also a bit strange that naturally flat-chested female slaves immediately start sprouting breasts from their natural hormones after they're bought.

    3. Yeah, I haven't tried to look into how it's all coded but something changed a few builds back, and hormones/aphrodisiacs very rarely increase facial beauty now. It's gotten to the point where I just pass on any slave that is Unattractive or Masculine right off the bat, which makes finding acceptable shemale slaves a chore.

      I know you can theoretically get around all of this with the Remote Surgery upgrade, but the cost on it pretty much makes it a post-plot-event purchase because there are so many things you have to spend money on before you can consider it.

Random comment not specific to this release: It's really aggravating to suddenly lose because you dipped below -10,000 moneys or whatever the limit is, even though you were doing fine and could easily have covered your debt by selling somebody. Maybe throw in a limited rescue system, like in pinball (where you can sometimes let a ball drop down one of the side chutes to its doom... and then get it back, but only ONCE, because a plunger went off and shot it back out)?

    Like, somebody could notice your debt and take the opportunity to attack you, but if you have a devoted slave she might volunteer to take the place of the debt somehow, and then you'd lose her and that would be your punishment, but your game would continue. Or maybe if you had a head girl, she could arrange an automatic sale of your most valuable slave (possibly herself??), whether you liked it or not, and you'd get the money and cover the debt... but then the punishment would be that a) you'd had a good slave sold when you probably preferred to keep her and b) the price she sold for was only 2/3 of the norm or some such because it wasn't you selling her or whatever. Or a bodyguard (if you had one) could give her life to interfere with your removal from your own arcology, just long enough to allow you and your other slaves to arrange a legal and/or military escape for you.

    Or, heck, you could put in a straight-up "lives" system, where the first time you run out of money one of these sorts of things happens to save you, and then the second time a more negative thing of this sort happens but still saves you, and then the third time you don't get saved.

    Regardless, the abrupt loss (with no warning beforehand) is awkward and weird.

    3. Well they may not want to give you a week, even knowing you're very much good for it. Somebody may want to bring you down for reasons other than money, so if you give them even a tiny opportunity then they might take it.

      But yeah you've got a platoon next to your house, or whatever. And armed security drones. No way should all that fall in less than a week without even a tiny chance of success on your side, just because of only one mediocre slave's worth of money.

      Also this mechanic doesn't quite function anyway, because you can save anytime. So basically this is just a punishment for not saving every single turn.

      Well you can drop into bad debt unexpectedly because of some events... attacks on the arcology and such. And maybe something else? I forget. I'm not sure that a warning would be enough. But yeah, it would be a lot better than nothing!

      And my "lives" ideas are just ideas. It should be easy enough to give at least a very simple emergency escape move, without going to all the trouble of making it work differently in case of head girl, bodyguard, quartered troops, etc.

  20. Hardcoded slave 'Top' Lillium has Buttplug: $activeSlave.buttplug and Accessories: $activeSlave.vaginalAccessory. She also seems to have weird ghost quirks - they don't appear on her profile but show up when trying to sell her, and you can break them and you just get generic text for doing so.

    RE bondage gear is currently a catch-22 when the slave is a virgin - either you let her run around naked which erodes her devotion or you break her virginities with dildos, which is a waste of perfectly good virginities and immediately takes away the gain of devotion.

    RE bondage gear: 'When confronted, , she says fearfully' - additional comma and space should be removed.

    Had a slave who's long profile said 'early twenties' but the short one on the main screen said 'mid-twenties'.

    There's an odd line break between 'encourage use of the nickname' and 'disapprove, but encourage the other slaves to come up with a better nickname' in the nickname events.

      If you have enough rep to place a special order but not enough to attend prestigious slave auctions, it incorrectly says "You are not reputable enough to order custom slaves.".

      The customdesc for the ex-sports star prestigious slave says 'She's not particularly bright, and enjoys solving problems with physical force', but her intelligence is random.

      RE mismatched pair, RE matched pair and FSlaveImpreg Consummate still use the old '.preg = -3' to signify a shemale slave being unable to achieve an erection due to hormones, instead of the new hormone system.

    surgically remove the ability to orgasm for masturbation rule-breakers similar to amputation for escapees BUT still make them get aroused.
    An animal sound only speech rule for pet play.
    Instead of mercenaries, the ability to train your own private slave army.

  29. An upgrade to the promenade or the brother once you have the upgrade to the surgery center could be allowing your customer customizing the whore while he's there. They take a health hit but a lot more dosh or something. Kinda a power trip type deal. You can set limits on whether or not they can lob off limbs and stuff.

I'd assume that'd be a prestige increase and possibly making you money depending on whether or not the giving of commands would cost money.

  31. Facility upgrade suggestions eh? How about one for the relatively new prestige stat? If you successfully market a slave and get her some prestige, you can put her into a marketing facility. While she's in there she incurs increased upkeep but it will utilise her prestige to the max, with a very small chance of increasing it over time.

    Related but slightly different would be one where your slave works purely as a celebrity, like singing or dancing or modelling or the like. I'd like more job varieties for virgin slaves. As an extra you would also attach a rule to preserve a slave's virginities. The chastity belt does nicely for the front but the back gets no protection whatsoever, y'know?

    Oh, and going on a tangent, could we get a number for asses like we do for breasts? For those of us that like nicely even proportions?

  36. Well, if we can capture a nurse, can we get a sexy nurse uniform to stick her in? As an upgrade perhaps a medical station to group heal sick slaves that can be staffed with a nurse?

    Is anyone else's devotion going a bit strange? I got three weeks of devotion dropping and then suddenly my slave became worshipful. I had this happen a few times where it was saying devotion was dropping and then devotion would level up.

    1. Plot events seem to break rules because parts of them are hard-set rather than randomly generated. Specifically, "shotgun/runner" slaves all have location/race-appropriate names despite being white, but their original names (IIRC) are white.

      If it helps, think of them as white people who grew up in non-white areas of the world, or tourists who were abducted by the locals and then sold into slavery (for that delicious historical irony).

    2.) One of my slaves couldn't help but get better at having things down her throat for no reason I can see. She wasn't gagged and she was assigned to rest.

  46. Not sure where I posted this before, so I'll repost an edited version here. I like the idea, but it might be a bit much for this game.

    After thinking about the possibility of adding a Nursing/Doctor skill, I had an idea. One way to make slaves more distinct would be to have a more restrictive skill system. Basically, every skill would have 3 ranks, and every slave would have [X+int] total skill rank slots. In addition to having to actually earn the skill-up through the normal methods, you would also need a free rank slot to put it in. That way, you wouldn't be able to train your slave to be a master at everything, Skyrim-style.

    In other words, it would allow you to add more skills without increasing the upper limit of slave capabilities. You wouldn't have slaves ending up as "Dr. Navy Seal Sexpert Professor Courtesan Bruce Lee, PhD" with enough training.


    If this would make the basic sex skills too expensive (since there are three of them), you could either exempt them or at least make all 3 (oral, anal, vaginal) come in a "group", so that if you spend a point to increase their skill rank cap, it would increase for all 3 sex skills.

    Or separate physical and mental skills, and give out physical slots based on something other than intelligence.


    Depending on what would be easier to code, you could either have the player reserve skill slots ahead of time, or the skill-up could be made available and then you could buy a slot and put it in at your leisure (assuming you want that particular skill). If both of those would be too hard or tedious, you could allow slaves to go over the cap, but give some penalty until they drop the extra skill rank.

  48. First of all, holy shit this game is amazing! Found it on tfgamessite yesterday and can't stop playing. Keep up the good work!. Secondly,I did find a few already reported bugs, namely the bodyguard's weekly activities report has an error in it,which may or may not be because the slave in question was trained fighter already(elise), and the rebellious slave in the shower scene having an error as well. Lastly, but most importantly, I have quite a few ideas which you may consider adding to the game. Currently I am compiling them offline,so while I am doing that, I got a couple of questions:1. Is there a point to me doing that? In other words, do you accept requests and do you intend to go on with the game in the foseeable future?
    2.Is there a dedicated place for request and ideas, and if yes, where it is?
    3. If there is no such place where should I post my sugesstions: here in the comments, on tfgames,on 4chan, somewhere else?

  50. BUG - There's some weirdness in how the Daughters of Liberty event chain interacts with relationships.

    In my current playthrough, I freed a slave who was in "dislike" status with one of the others. The slave I kept had her "dislike" status cleared, which is normal. The slave I freed was re-captured, but when she showed up in the main page list she still had the "dislike" from before.

    Subsequently, this "dislike" went up to "rival", but the other slave (the initial target of the "dislike") isn't reciprocating. Instead, a completely different slave on the list has received a "dislike" - but the target of her dislike is herself!

    I think what's causing the issue is that the kept slaves' relationship status is cleared when their relationship target leaves, but the plot event chain keeps the freed slave "freeze-framed" - exactly as she was when she was freed.

    The easiest solution would seem to be clearing the freed slave's relationship status, because letting the remaining slave maintain a relationship when the freed slave might not return (due to plot event choices) is just asking for more trouble of the same kind.

  51. I keep getting a random event, but before I can read any of it it goes away and a new one pops up. The only thing I've been able to gather is an option that says "Accept the Pledge." I know it's the Busy Arcade event because when I go into debug mode I ran through all the events and it was the only one what went away before I could read it.

  52. NICKNAMES

    Given current political situation, I feel "Crimea River" would be a fitting nickname for Ukrainian slaves, especially the bitchy ones who are always complaining. Ukraine has also been called the breadbasket of Europe, so "Chernozem/Black Soil/Black Earth" could apply as well.

    "Steppe Child" could apply for Russia and the various countries in its southern underbelly (from Mongolia in the east to Ukraine in the west, stretching through Kazakhstan and hitting the former Soviet republics south of that - Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan).

    "Drunkard" fits both stereotypes of Russians and Russia's internal problems. It would be a better fit on shemale Russian slaves, because alcoholism mostly hits men there. (I'm assuming you're not planning adding addiction to "conventional" substances for freshly-purchased slaves.)

    Too many slaves currently have only "Stateless" as their national nickname option. Maybe add "Third World" for some variation as well, and leave "Stateless" (or "Subjugated"?) specifically for places with questionable independence? (Again, current political situation should qualify Ukrainians; Armenians, Irish, and others would fit "Stateless" due to historical issues.)

    Some variation of "Frozen" - maybe "Frigid" if they're uncooperative? "Icicle" if they're also white? - for countries of origin with high latitudes, like Russia and Canada? I believe cultures native to the polar latitudes are frequently looked down on by local populace, so "Eskimo" could be a pejorative nickname for the slaves who aren't actually of that ethnicity.

    "Tropical" would fit for the opposite, while "Mile High" or similar would work for countries located in mountainous areas. (Tibet, South America.)

    "Sardine" (as in "packed like sardines") or similar for countries with high population density? (India and China specifically.)

    China recently ended its "one child" policy, but Chinese slaves could still be "Surplus" or "Unwanted" or some variant of "Undocumented" given what had been happening to female babies there for years.

    If there aren't already middle-eastern nicknames referring to the region's oil supply, you could squeeze a few out of that - "black gold" being the obvious one, especially for dark-skinned middle-easterners. Alternatively, this could be specifically restricted to OPEC-member countries.

    Sweden should have "Surströmming" if it doesn't already. ("This slave's vagina is just as nasty to non-natives.")

I'm not sure if it happens to be a problem with my laptop or if it is a bug, but it seems like the game is skipping weeks from time to time (clicking END WEEK on week 11 and only coming back to the main page on week 13, for instance). Even if it is a local problem, I think it might be worth at least considering the possibility of disregarding input while the game is loading (no idea how hard it is to implement something like it, though; I never made into event-driven programming)
