ALPHA 0.8.2: Love Nest


Player feedback suggests that the Master Suite is one of the more popular facilities, so this update gives it some attention. The existing luxury upgrade has been supplanted by two mutually exclusive options. The first is a luxurious remodel with a big bed, which retains most of the features of the old luxury upgrade, but downplays sex between slaves in the Master Suite in favor of dutiful service. The second builds a cushioned pit into the floor and expects slaves in the Master Suite to have group sex there at all times. The old Master Suite syngergized well with slave marriage, and the luxurious bed upgrade continues that. The fuckpit alternative works best when filled with nymphomaniac sluts. This may sound similar to the way the Futanari Sisters live, and that's intentional; in fact, former Sisters will want very badly to be included in the fun.


Request for feedback: Web platform

Blogger has been functional as a platform from my perspective: it allows me to post patch notes and received feedback; it's also simple, stable, and free. I'm aware it does have some limitations, however. Some commenters are having persistent problems with their comments disappearing. Also, though blog posts with 200+ comments work perfectly well for me from a feedback perspective, they're terrible for discussion of the game.

I've looked into some possibilities for setting up a dedicated forum for Free Cities, and it seems feasible. It'd take some effort to set up, there would be some minor costs, and I'd be obliged to recruit a mod or mods, but those are all surmountable issues. I'll only bother surmounting them, though, if there's enough interest to justify the effort. So: is there?

  • The fuckpit upgrade adds an intense form of fetish generation to the Master Suite, based on the physical characteristics and libidos of the slaves there.
  • Living in a suite with a fuckpit filled with sexually energetic slaves shares many effects with other intensive sexual assignments.
  • Former Futanari Sisters have a special affinity for a suite with a fuckpit.

  • Updated the code that generates rivals for the current endgame event chain to produce more valuable and interesting outcomes.

    1. There are now seven rival archetypes: four XX and three XY. Only one of the XX archetypes is heavily implanted to the point where she won't easily qualify as natural.

  2. I would say to stick with blogspot. Taking the time to create a new site like CoC/TITS has would result alot of down time unless you spend the money to get it made and maintained for you. If you were a group of people I would lean on changing sites with minimal downtime, but I prefer more time working on FC content.

    1. That isn't necessarily true. There are dozens of pre-existing pieces of CMS, blogging, and forum software out there. Most of it is fairly trivial to deploy.

      FC Author might need a VPS, but I tend to doubt it.

    3. The game is written using Twine, which in turn uses HTML. (It's possible to edit Twine-originated HTML in the raw HMTL, but it's very ugly.) I recommend getting the latest version of Twine 2, loading the latest version of the Sugarcube 2 format, and then importing FC.

    1. The economic war is the endgame. Once you win the money war you can choose to enslave your rival. and that effectively ends the story line as it currently exists.

  5. There appears to still be an issue with subordinate slave targeting. When targeting a subordinate slave, it appears correctly on the actual subordinate assignment page itself, however upon going back to the slave's individual page, it shows they are "resting".

  9. Thanks for the work you put in the game, a forum would be great since *chans treads and blog format are not great for continued constructive discussion. On the previous version, all my slave that where given choice of clothes went for the naked option, is this a bug?

    1. I'm not so sure about removing ourselves from the *chans, since most of the FC fanbase discovered the game through *chan discussions. Basically free advertising. However, moving to a forum is a logical step forwards with greater support/fans for the game. The only worrying thing is how will increased needs on forum support and maintenance would affect FC Dev and his passion for the game. It seems small, but a forum migration is a huge commitment.

    2. Saves from previous versions are incompatible, and this is an example of why. Your save is missing the variable that sets how the main menu links are positioned. Either start a new game or use New Game Plus, and you'll have a complete set of variables. If you don't, bugs are inevitable.

  13. Hi, I recommended the bimbofication a few posts ago.

    I noticed that 4 loyal slaves event with the casino and opera, still only refers to the PC as male, no matter the option.

    I also would like to suggest to maybe expand on the high heels a little bit. More so, I would like to cosmetically have slaves with tall heels, but the injury it causes is unappealing. Something along the lines of a high heel skill, or more events/descriptive dialogue in relation to heels would be neat. Or even that if you alter the girls tendons, they are able to wear extreme heels well. The idea of the girls getting really skilled at wearing them where they can sprint and dance in them would be cool.

    Just recommendations though, putting ideas out there, I don't want to insist on any ridiculous ideas due to the amount of work it obviously takes.

  14. I love this addition to the Master Suite. I always do the Paternalistic FS because I enjoy having multiple slave wives. I have mentioned this idea before, but I'd like a nursery facility to care for my PC's offspring. If I have children with a slave wife, I would like to have that child cared for in my penthouse somewhere. You can have Preg fetish slaves act as babysitters, each babysitter caring for 5 kids at the most.

    I must have missed something. I have seen mention of the Futanari Sisters many times on this site, but nefver in the game. Maybe I've been choosing the wrong FS so I never come across them in the game. Forgive me for being clueless.

    What is the end game? After I beat the rival arcology owner, what comes after that?

Having a specific place for users to discuss things among themselves is good, but I don't want to see disagreement or drama affect the game's focused development. Through and experienced moderators are key.

    1. Back at 0.8.1.4modfix2 I changed it to greater than 4, greater than or equal to 3, and greater than or equal to 2. After thinking about it some more, maybe it should be gt 5, gt 4, gt 3, and everyone else.

      That gives 4 tier.
      First tier will be very tall (190 cm) and muscular (2) bodyguard or else she can be 160+ cm but will have to be very muscular (3).
      Second tier is for bodyguards with a more common height but muscular or else very tall and toned.
      Third tier is short but muscular or average height and toned bodyguards.
      Last tier is then for short and toned bodyguards (don't discount her, she's secretly a ninja), or even for those without any muscle tone at all.

      Since muscle value is not actually an integer, someone 175 cm tall with a muscle value of 2.6 would go into the first tier, which is fine for me, but if this isn't what FC Author has in mind then the values will have to be rounded down.

  18. As for moving to forums, I'm supportive of the idea in theory, but are there any formats out there that does conversation threading like blogger or reddit? When I've taken part in the past on modding and gaming design forums, one of the biggest headaches was keeping track of who was replying to whom when four or five separate mini conversations started taking place in the same thread and different people started quoting the same messages over and over again. Keeping the conversation going without getting drowned out in noise at that point can become a huge pain in the butt.

    Blogger's comment section isn't ideal, but at least here when I'm replying to someone else's comment I can keep that somewhat separated out from whatever else is getting posted.

    How come companies with dedicated funding, and teams of professional staff, and office space, and like business logistics and shit can't make a better management game than you working by yourself for free as a hobby?

  22. Any plans to include a notice board for custom orders from NPCs? The PC can make custom orders but it would be nice to be able to take orders from other people. You then find an appropriate slave on the market (or from your current stock) and train or modify their body to fit the rest of the requirements of the order. It would give you a nice repeatable goal that encourages you to constantly train new slaves.

I've been thinking, there might be a place for an additional modifier in the PC setup, based on how he/she looks at the reinstatement of slavery; Regretful, Pragmatic and Indulgent with minor bonuses based on the choice. Would give the game a bit more flavor, especially if it wasn't too much work to lock out certain scenes based on the choice.

I mean something like the slave pits/marriage mechanics where we start the event instead of it being random.

    2. If you're referring to calling your mercenaries the Eight Immortals, then that means you only have 8 mercenaries. Also, Immortals were once the Persian Empire's best warriors, so I don't think it would work out.

    4. I meant "Immortals" by itself is fitting for Chinese revivalism since historically there were the "Eight Immortals," so calling them just Immortals is culturally appropriate. The fact that the Persians also called something by a similar name doesn't make it any less culturally relevant for anyone else who used it as well. It would make about as much sense to suggest suggest Immortals can't work out as a title for a hypothetical Persian revivalism on account of Napoleon's bodyguards.

      In fact Chattel Religionist (Knights Templar) and all the historical revivals besides Chinese have their own title, but for some reason one and only one of the history non specific FS gets the Chinese sounding one, while that gets nothing. The inconsistency bugs me.

  35. I've asked this before, but could you please, please add a way to have an arcology that accepts pregnant, virile herms? You can either go with gender traditionalism, which makes pregnant slaves acceptable but hates testicles, or you can go with gender radicalism, which dislikes pregnant slaves. It's extremely infuriating for a player who likes both of those things, and prefers to give them to all slaves when possible.

    1. If you're looking to shack up with the Futanari Sisters, the Asset Expansionism FS is great for them. Since everything on them is huge by default (Asset Expansion rewards both huge feminine characteristics and huge masculine characteristics), your Arcology will love them regardless of other factors.

      If you were hoping to make your own surgically developed flat-chested herms, then... yeah, we need a new FS.

  36. Please don't devote time and resources to forums. If Blogspot works for getting feedback to you and you posting updates, then great, and that's enough. I'd hate to see you get bogged down with forum yammering or for the feedback to become harder to get. If people want to discuss this game elsewhere, then that's up to them - I know there's a thread on Fenoxo's site discussing it, so I'd imagine there are similar threads elsewhere.

    1. This makes sense. Why not just approach Fenoxo and ask him to allow the use of a subforum in his site? Since he already has a site and a forum up and running, the cost of adding a subforum is minimal for him. An average of 200 comments per week is miniscule for a forum. Why duplicate the effort in setting up a private server and forum software?

    2. PS: if you make a forum, do not be an active participant in discussions. That way lies madness. Read the bug reports. Read the suggestions. Announce new versions and bugfixes. But do not join the discussion. If someone slams you for some game design choice, do not reply and defend yourself. Because this is a one person project, and there isn't enough time. When you get a full-time co-author or when the project gets to version 1.0, maybe then there's time.

  37. Random bug: When making new slaves, if your slave is 18 years old, it won't tell you how many weeks until her next birthday. Thankfully, you can work around this by just randomly rerolling new slaves until one of the gets 40+ weeks remaining and then set her age to 18. Ideally though, we should be able to set the weeks remaining manually.

    I like the idea of using a forum, but most websites start off focused on an initial project and then start to shave off attention towards other unrelated subjects (such as building threads for Video Games or Anime-related topics).

    Then, the developers start to devote less time to the project and maintenance of the discussion of the project and progress is slowed.

    Then, the project ceases to be a project and transforms into a community where unrelated posts veil the related posts and useful comments are drowned out by petty arguments and arrogant nitpicks.

    As long as that happens not, support via Sophie can be sought.

    That is what a mod is for: to gently encourage people to remember the better angels of their nature.

    And when that doesn't work, boot them.

    So long a FCDev is not doing the modding, I can only see better organizing of the communication helping the process.

  42. For minimum effort, you could just start a thread at someplace that discusses adult games. For example, Hongfire's "hentai games" discussion area (I realize this isn't exactly hentai, what with the lack of anime images, but that's true of some of the other games discussed there too). Just post there, or another similar site that discusses such games, add a link to it to the list of links on the side (and include a link to this blog in the post), and be done with it. And get a bit of extra advertising for your game in the bargain.

    I'd love a separate forum, we could discuss strategies, strange events even some fan made story.

    However, if that takes out of the time dedicated to coding then NO, I can do without a forum. So far the development of this game has been legendary. You provide updates faster and more comprehensive than any XXX indie game I know of. And you do it with little to no donations basically. I wouldn't want to ruin this by changing things.

  46. A couple suggestions/requests I keep forgetting to post:

    When in the Remote Surgery and dealing with facial surgery, I'd love the option to make faces more androgynous or masculine (in addition to the current options of making them cute/sensual/exotic/normal).

    Also, I'd like the option to use surgery to make faces 'worse' (ie go from 2 to 1 or 0 to -1, etc). In my particular case it's because I usually turn non-female slaves into androgynous geldlings, and if you happen to get one with a prettier-than-average face there's currently no way I know of to make it 'worse' than male hormones and hope. But it should be a relatively simple option to code and I'm sure someone else out there could find uses for it.

    Finally, while I don't have a text example to show, I just wanted to throw the idea out of having facial descriptions call out faces that have had 2+ levels of surgery (enough to count as 'implanted') out. Something like 'her face is the height of feminine beauty, although the perfect regularity of her features betray the modifications made to her face' or something similar.

I only skimmed the comments but I concur with the general sense that a new forum would be great but I am wary of it intruding too much into development time. I will say, though, that while the in-game encyclopedia is really fantastic there are lots of smaller questions it does not address and it would be great to have a more user-friendly place to go ask to questions than the latest comment thread here.

  48. Suggestion: Make the Cellblock able to take any slave with flaws, whatever their fear or devotion might be. With the School rework, the Cellblock is the only useless facility left as of today.. With this small tweak the Cellblock would become a good investment as softening flaws is one of the slowest things of training which in turn makes most people use the HG only to soften flaws, never using her other habilities.

    A better comment-type system would be great, but I would recommend sticking with free options to avoid making the game feel like a chore because you have a bill to pay every month (or so). I doubt I would follow reddit mostly because it's a time-sink I try to actively avoid.

      Speaking of which, it should only set the prestige to 1 if the slave has no prestige previously. If the slave is already very prestigious, this event could set it back down again.

    The italicized is present for doing this the other way - after upgrading to traditional opulence, the option to change the suite into a fuckpit carries the 10k cost reminder.

Then again, since I mainly come here for game updates, it wouldn't bother me if you were to change sites, either--I could just check the new place for updates. I suppose a forum might be nice to serve as a place where people can share stories about the game, ask questions, or post links to things that people who enjoy it might be interested in. Then again, there are already threads about this game on plenty of forums, and I expect that most players get here from such a site. Don't know if that's a justified expectation, though. If your main goal is just to have a comment section that's readable and conducive to discussion, a simpler solution might be to implement threaded, collapsable comments. I'm not exactly sure how they work, but I know it can be done on wordpress, so I suspect the same is true here. Sorry I don't have more details to share on that.

    Bugs:

    For punishing collars the devotion check if ($slaves[$i].devotion lte 5) should probably be (lte 4) since they're 4 for clothes and between 4 and 5 is already past ambivalent into accepting

    Either the head girl formality check if ($HGFormality is 1) should be (is 0) or the settings should be reversed from the current formal = 0, informal = 1. I'd go with the latter since ($HGFormality is 1) implies Formal = True, but that would mean changing the initial condition as well.

    Hitting continue in the left menu on customize her description screen goes back to the main screen and not the slave you were customizing, compared to surgery/body mod studio/salon which does.

    In the pre-game slave creation screen, a text box to enter the slave's height in cm like the new option to enter breast size in CC. It's the only other numerical value in a slave's description and currently if you want a slave taller than 190cm or shorter than 145cm, you just have to roll randoms until you get it.

    I remember seeing this game in its earliest stages but ignored it for quite a while, eventually got around to playing it with 0.7.8.1 and have enjoyed myself tremendously since. Keep up the fantastic work!

I think this is a really good approach for the game in its present state and I hope this is how you intend to continue updating FC for a while. The game has a lot of mechanics but most of them are a bit lacking in terms of content.

  69. So here's a suggestion I was thinking of as I was playing in the late game portion of a FC run. I feel like there needs to be interaction with individual slaves. The Week-End events are nice, but I think there ought to be more ways to differentiate slaves rather than just events. So i started thinking how to do that... and something occurred to me as I read the little lines at the bottom of the home screen, the ones that showcase slaves near you as well as one random slave doing a job.

    And it hit me. Something like a special or 'luxury' job list. These jobs would be like.... private dancer or musician, handmaid, or even something like erotic human furniture. This would be a purely fluff thing, though i suppose you could find a game-stat way to justify them... like rep gain or something. But the main aspect of it would be taking a given girl out of play and make her something like a room decoration. Perhaps even giving a special random event for a given luxury job.

    I feel like it would give favored girls a unique appeal, and also be something that an extravagant Free-Cities dictator would, in fact, do.

  77. I would like to see general rules for each location. The game says rules are set by the location a slave is asigned to, but that isn't true. They just retain the rules you set previously and you can't edit some important stuff without unassigning them.

    1. Nothing happens to the children. FC Author said that a child takes too long to grow in the context of this game that the average player will never play long enough to see it. Thus it isn't worth coding.

      He's right. It takes 936 game turns from the birth of a child to his/her 18th birthday. I'm sure somewhere there's someone who's dedicated enough to play that long, but I expect most people play under 200 turns.

I would do something simple like changing the cap on beauty from hormones and the whole game would just keel over. I'm not sure what I managed to break.

    3. I'm now having the same problem, with firefox but in palemoon it works fine. I think it might have to do with either the newest version of ff, or the newest java, but seems to be more with the newest version of Java. As I'm sure it worked fine before I updated to Java 1.8.0.101. It doesn't matter what version of sugarcube or FreeCities I use.

    4. In order for the switch and case macros to work, you need to have the latest version of Sugarcube (2.7.1/2.7.2) as they were only added recently so older versions of Sugarcube don't have them.

  87. I have noticed that the upkeep reduction by slaves is rather wonky. I have observed reductions between 600 to 900. I have this 1 troublesome and rebellious slave that started out with an upkeep reduction of 825 but it is now 600. I have yet to figure out what determines what the upkeep reduction factors are. If anyone has figured this out please, spread the word.

    As for forums, I think a free, throwaway style one might be useful for you, your freelancing content writers and a core of your beta-testers that regularly do feedback and ideas. I'd be wary of letting the unwashed hordes into it, just because you inevitably get a large dose of stupid with it. :)

      Though I to have run into a similar issue with educating brilliant slaves, but not in school. They would learn everything but not get set to resting once learned. I wasted weeks on them taking classes that didn't need to be taken. lol

    2. Schoolroom has been reworked.
      Old schoolroom: Slave is educated but has no Entertainment skill. Can't go to schoolroom. Find another way of learning Entertainment skill. Same goes with other skills.
      New schoolroom: Slave is educated but has no Entertainment skill. Schoolroom will teach up to intermediate level Entertainment skill if the teacher has the skill at the same level or higher. This goes for every skill except combat skill and also for accent reduction. This is why your slave don't get automatically kicked out of school when they become educated. Because there might still be something else to learn. No, the code does not check if the student can no longer get any benefit. That'll be quite complex. So you have to remove the student manually when you feel she can no longer benefit from school.

  106. Ah... this might sound dumb, but I have consistently have problem with different slaves having the same name. The presence of alternate names is already present in the game, so I think it might be cool if we could change the names of our slaves. If that feature is already available, please correct me and point me in the correct direction. Thank you.

    1. Go to your slave's personal description page. Directly after their description there will be a few choices, starting with "Description Options", then "Hide Description", and then "Customize Her Description".

      Click on "Customize Her Description".

      Here, you can not only rename her, but also give her a variety of other customized items.

  107. Is there a randomized attractiveness "seed" for each slave? I'm getting a little bewildered - I'm in a Transformation Fetishist society, and I've taken a slave with middling attractive and surgically modified them to perfection (max upgraded face, large tits/ass/lips, liposuction, permanent makeup, heightened voice, feminine shoulders and wide hips, etc) and got them up to perfect health, and they're still hovering around ~70 attractiveness.

    Meanwhile, I just bought a manly man bro with no modifications at all, man face, man proportions, man voice, big ol' man schlong, no tits or ass, average lips, just like some dude off the street, and he's at 105 attractiveness. I don't have any other Future Societies.

    So, I mean, are some slaves just generated with a higher base attractiveness score?

  108. Noticed someting when buying a slave... The description has a bit of code turning up in it:

    As soon as she arrived in the slave market, she was subjected to a battery of testing: an intelligence test, strict judgements of her facial attractiveness, a physical exam, and more. She failed, and only then learned that by failing she placed herself under the merciless dictates of eugenic theory. Her balls were promptly removed to prevent her from passing on her inferior genes, infuriating and color:gold:terrifying her.

    Looks like the code in question ends in a colon instead of a semicolon....

Why is it, that when an event comes around like the sister event where they have raked up debt and the one sister is whoring her sister and trying to sell her, I don't get the option to sell one or both sisters. I only get to enslave one or sell the other. Why??? I've played this games since version 6.1 and nothing! I need money!

Minor annoyance - when you get to the added content with the mercenary colonel around week 82, during the next week summaries, the colonel has three options you can choose from, and the third one (accountability) won't stay set on your choice from the previous week. It keeps defaulting back to 'no accountability'.


    Your instructions to the Colonel:
    Deployment focus: Recruiting and Training. Recruit and Train | Secure Trade Routes | Raiding and Slaving
    Rules of Engagement: Limited Fire. Hold Fire | Limited Fire | Free Fire
    Accountability: No Accountability. Strict Accountability | Some Accountability | No Accountability

    I keep setting it to Strict Accountability or Some accountability, but it keeps defaulting to No Accountability each week.
