ALPHA 0.10.1: Hands On

This is a snap update which I'm releasing for two important reasons.

First, an anonymous contributor has done great work on efficiency and usability. The game runs much faster now, to the point where the game feels significantly different. The improvement is so noticeable that I felt it needed to be made public as soon as possible.

Second, this update makes the most sweeping interface changes since the game was released. Experience has taught me to get interface changes out for public feedback as soon as possible. The UI can be reverted to something approximating its previous layout under Game Options, but please do try out the new setup and let me know what you think. The new interface is in an early state, but as should become obvious as soon as you see it, it'll allow the game to mature in ways that wouldn't otherwise be possible.

Saves from previous versions are incompatible, but 
0.6+ saves are eligible for New Game Plus.

  • Fixed several bugs with the penthouse area of the new interface.

0.10.1 changelog

Arcology management

  • Created a new table-based arcology interface divided into levels and sectors, to consolidate old mechanics and offer new planning decisions.
  • Integrated the existing arcology share mechanic into the new sector manager by tying arcology share to ownership of sectors.
  • Each level of the arcology has a default facility, hosting tenants; these create rent as previously.
  • Provided two mutually exclusive upgrades to sectors in the three apartment levels, as a prototype of planned sector upgrades.
  • Updated the demographic and prosperity mechanics to interact with the upgrades to the apartment sectors.
  • Eliminated separate privately owned menial and sex slave tracking from arcology demographics as an unnecessary complication for the new mechanics.
  • Productive facilities (the Brothel, Club, Arcade, Dairy, and Pit) must now be constructed on the appropriate level of the arcology, displacing the default tenants.
  • All other facilities are now included in the PC's extended penthouse sector, meaning that constructing them has no new opportunity cost.
  • The limit on menial slaves is now raised by building pens on the service level rather than by buying the generic arcology upgrades.
  • Removed several generic arcology upgrades that have been superseded by sector mechanics.
Other updates
  • Integrated a massive set of efficiency and usability improvements contributed by Anon.
  • Public sexual assignments should honor chastity belts with respect to sex act logging.
  • Added four new random recruits, by Anon.
  • Bugfixes.

  1. This has been an issue for a while, but when using auto surgery to remove butt implants I typically will get just the same message 'surgery to remove butt implants surgery to remove butt implants surgery to remove butt implants until the slave is no healthy enough for the surgery each week.

      On the top of the new UI pyramid thing, just below the "Penthouse" link, there's the "Suite" link (which is the head girl's suite). Just click it and there you can appoint a slave to serve your head girl.

    4. Having a similar issue. After purchasing the HG suite, Penthouse block has proper links for other facilities but shows "[HG Suite|Head Girl Suite]] (0)" instead of linking to the HG suite page.

      Also, I miss having the links to my facilities on the sidebar for the main menu. It's cool to have the model of the arcology, but on a day-to-day basis it's a bit harder to find stuff now/a bit more inconvenient to access the facilities. It would be nice to have links to the facilities both in the sidebar AND in the arcology model.

  8. Haven't had the time to really dig into how it changes late-game performance, but so far really enjoying the new UI, even if it does take some adjusting on finding stuff. The visualization of the city through the UI is, well, awesome. Plus some serious performance improvements and a stutter I always noticed before is gone, so sweet update and I see why ya rushed it.

    Oh and also had same imported rule issue as above.

  9. INCONSISTENCY - the text of the "let the slave do what she wants" event references penetration, but virginity is not lost. (If the event is supposed to break virginity, it will also need reminder text after the relevant choices.)

  10. BUG - the "send her directly to the spa" link on individual slave pages does not exist, and is replaced with an error instead:

  11. BUG? - changing a slave's assignment seems to clear slave's drug/curative/weight settings, the way assigning a slave to a facility used to. The slave remains present on the main screen, but the drugs/curatives/etc settings have to be manually set up again.

  12. BUG? - Didn't see an answer to this on last version's page, but I can't find the option to change hip/shoulder size more than once, even with upgraded surgery. Did that functionality get locked behind something new?

  14. Is there a way to remove piercings and such when creating a slave at the start? I keep selecting a new slave but they keep having one or more piercings which i don't like.

    1. I don't think you can prevent auto-generated piercing, but you can always remove piercings in the body mod studio and the game acts as if they were never there.

  15. Also, is there a way to stop your headgirl from getting the dominant fetish? I tried making her treat the slaves gently but she still gets dominant and I don't like using smart piercings.

If you want your head girl to be something other than dominant, you need to induce a fetish through a smart piercing as well as certain softened flaws to override her becoming dominant before appointing her to as the head girl. You can make her submissive by inducing Liberated and Apathetic flaws then softening them, (liberated becomes advocate, apathetic becomes caring) which would make her take care of the slaves instead of dominating them. Here is a list of what flaws do when softened and which fetish is most likely to occur from said flaw.

      I don't remember what fetishes Strugglefuck and Fitness induce though If I had to guess, strugglefuck would induce submission (the willingness to be held down and fucked) and Fitness would induce dominance (wanting to get a good workout from hard sex).

      This is all from memory, if anyone knows where to find it in the help stuff or if there is a blog post about it, then please feel free to correct me if anything is wrong but these are my observations from playing the game.

  16. Like DrPill said, my drug + curative settings revert to "none" whenever I change a slave's assignment.

    Worse than that though, when I give a slave's smart piercing a fetish assignment that they don't have already (i.e. trying to make a vanilla slave into a submissive), then the smart piercing has no effect. Raising already existing fetishes works, and raising/lowering XX, XY attraction and libido works as well.

  18. I have 4 Japanese slaves on public servant duty and spend 7000 on furthering societal change, but Edo Revivalism does not rise at all. Paternalism and Asian Subjugationism progress pretty quickly.

  19. It works faster now.

    But i think during alpha maximum number of slaves that you can carry into new game plus should be increased. It takes very long time to buy replacements for staff you leave behind each time. Last update i lost 2 hours in buying screen to end with bugged save. 10 should be enough. 20 girls can give a nice boost.

    And yeah, for me this update is NOT compatible with 0.10.0.3 ;(

    1. I agree that I would also really like the option to take a few more slaves with me between games. That WOULD adjust the game's difficulty a bit, though, so if FC_Author was willing to allow a few more imports, then it would probably be best to have an option to take 5 OR (for example) 10 slaves with the caveat that the 10 will change difficulty. Some people do like to play on harder modes, after all.

    2. I think we should be able to take more slaves at the cost of more starting money depending on how much money we have available for carrying over to the new game. Like each slave over 5 would take 10k off our carry over cash amount until we got down to 5k carry over.

  20. Just had the self-enslavement event for Egyptian Revivalism trigger, where incestuous siblings offer themselves to become your slaves. After enslaving them I received four new slaves instead of two, two carbon copies of the pair.

  25. OK so I opened my save from the latest bugfix before this update and didn't see any of my facilities. Next I went to manage arcology looking for them and it had soooooooooo many red bars of brokenness it was ridiculous. I previously owned 87% of my arcology but and 50% of most others but it said my own arcology was at 0% ownership while the public held 12%. Definitely going to hold off on any further updates until things straighten out.

    P.S. Don't know where to post bugs or send screenshots so that's why I posted here.

  26. As things are now, when you save on the main screen the save preview is a jumble of code: "table.arcology { table-layout: fixed; text-align: center; border-collapse: separate;". Purely for aesthetic purposes I'd suggest moving the arcology summary starting with "x, your arcology, located in a Free City..." back to the top of the page above the Sector UI, where it used to be.

  28. Can confirm that chastity is being preserved while slaves with belts are whoring. However, the game still mentions sex but no consequences. Also cannot test if HG bypasses chastity belts if there is a slave under her as the HG room is not visible in the Penthouse.

    1. When starting the game, during the final check before continuing to make your slaves, there is an option to enable details for the master suite. This option also lets you see what goes on in the head girl suite at the end of the week report just after the head girl's details. If the slave is a virgin, not wearing the chastity belt, the head girl will relish taking their virginity and spend the week ogling her conquest. I have not played with the new chastity belt fixes yet so I don't know if the head girl honors the belt or not. will reply again after playing the new build.

    2. After some testing, the headgirl still ignores the chastity belt for her personal slave no matter what rules are in place (after all, it's her personal slave that you've given her).

      During gameplay, after puchasing any room for the penthouse, go to manage arcology and all rooms for the penthouse are in the top box.

BUG (or rather an inconvenience) - personal attention applied to slaves with paraphilias will default (after completing other assignments) to SOFTENING A FLAW, even though paraphilias cannot be softened. This will result in weekly updates trying to and failing to soften a flaw until the player notices.

  33. When trying to apply rules to slaves via the rules assistant, it applies every rule to the slaves not assigned to a facility. Regardless of whether I select the rule to apply only to a specific facility or exclude every facility but the one I want it applied to, this happens every time. So my unassigned slaves have multiple rules applied to them. It's quite a mess. The only way I've been able to work around it is to exempt the unassigned slaves so the rules don't apply to them but then I have to remember to include them again when assigning. Anyone else having this issue??

    1. I find it's easy to work around that by also applying that rule to similar jobs for the penthouse. (brothel rules assigned to whoring, dairy rules assigned to milking, etc. etc.)

    The vector mod is working again, but there's still a problem or two.

    BUG: setting hair to certain colors creates an incomplete or even glitched result. I have tested EVERY available color.
    All of the following appear to be missing a fringe/bang:

    -auburn
    -burgundy
    -chestnut
    -chocolate
    -copper
    -dark brown (file misnamed as "darkbrown", can be fixed by user)
    -ginger
    -golden (glitched result with mixed colors)
    -grey
    -hazel
    -platinum (file misnamed as "platinumblonde", can be fixed by user)
    -purple (okay, this one doesn't actually exist -but it should!)
    -Silver
    -strawberry (also, shouldn't it be more... pink?)
    -white

    ...Upon further inspection, this seems to be an issue with the alignment of the hair fore neat (color).svg files. I'll see if I can fix them myself... and add purple while I'm at it.

    1. Reporting in once more. I have figured out how to fix the .svg files, they can be edited easily with notepad++.

      The .svg files for the colors I mentioned above are a rats nest of redundant code, so I made copies of the black hair files (which are coded simpler and aligned correctly) and substituted the color hex codes from the glitched files. After that, I just renamed them appropriately.

      I have also added purple!

  35. Edo Revivalism still fails immediately for me in 10.1.1. Other arcologies seem to be faring well with Arabian Revivalism; two out of three have advanced it far enough for their names to change.

  38. It seems to me that the Security Force mod is totally not accessible due to the new Arcology management UI. After the Security Force is established, there is no way to upgrade their equipment or facility.

  42. What? No one wants to know how I added a custom hair color to the vector mod? You'd think SOMEone would be curious. Whatever, back to boring ol' bug reports.

    BUG: Randomly generated slaves set to "will work as a servant" rest instead of working. This is because the "will work as a servant" assignment doesn't exist. The text is supposed to read "will be a servant". Manually assigning them to be a house servant corrects this.

    BUG: One of the randomly generated slaves that came with my arcology was a "skilled anal slut" even though she was an anal virgin.

    BUG: Slaves created by the player often have hidden low level sex skills even if they are complete virgins. Ex: whoreSkill: 9 on a woman with no whoring experience, or analSkill: 3 on an anal virgin. (And I just KNOW these hidden scores contribute to the overall price.) Please explain.

      I've added just two colors, purple, and an improved strawberry (the old strawberry has been renamed dirty blonde), but if someone else wants to add even more colors it wouldn't hurt to know how, would it?

      I've just about finished fixing the .svg files, so I'll be looking to submit the repairs soon -with my 2 additional colors as an added bonus.

  43. 10.1.2 and Edo Revivalism still fails as soon as you try establishing it, no matter how many more Japanese slaves I put on public servant duty. It delays things, but there's absolutely no chance to advance the FS. You're lucky if you can manage to sustain it, but in all cases it failed, sooner or later.

  45. BUG 10.1.2 : The vector art shown in the main list is different from the screen looking at each slave individually. The hips/legs and butt in the main list appear larger than what they should be. While the individual screen seems correct.

      Can you give some examples? What size are the hips and buttocks on these particular slaves?

      How about the penthouse report screen?

      Are you using the newest version of the vector mod?

    2. Never mind, I just did some double checking and testing myself, this problem I reported back in February is STILL around. This is easy to see on slaves with narrow hips.
      Examples:

      1- hips: -1, butt: 4 (control subject, normal and consistent)

      2- hips: -1, butt: 3 (normal and consistent)

      3- hips: -1, butt: 2 (BIG inconsistency here, buttocks are LARGER than level 3 on main screen and penthouse report screen, but nonexistent on the individual menu screen)

      4- hips: -1, butt: 1 (same thing)

      Hey, FC Author; Hey, NovX; you both might want to look into this long-standing BUG.

  46. I am unable to purchase another part of my arcology as the other share holder has too much. (84% vs 13%) The discription says this will resolve itself in a couple of weeks but after 10 weeks nothing has changed.

  48. I dont know if itd just more but pubic hair always seems to be brown, even when I use the auto salon to change the color to match the slaves hair, it still shows up in the vector art as brown.

  51. BUG - If the rules assistant applies branding to devoted or worshipful slaves they suffer fear and health penalties, but no penalties if the brand is manually applied.

    1. depends on their flaws, usually if the slave is "arrogant", "devout", "mind liberated" or "bitchy" they'll gain resistance instead of losing it, leave them there and be sure to have a muscular (maybe sadistic) Warden and the facility have the upgrade to soften/break their flaws, it ends up working

  57. I think I figured out what is wrong with the fertility setting, it is registering all females using contraceptives as being barren. It's not looking for females that are on contraceptives, but rather, it is looking for all slaves that are registered as fertile before setting them up on the proper fertility regimen. I took a slave off contraceptives in a facility where the rules assistant was set to extremely fertile then applied rules and it put her on the proper drug regimen of fertility drugs and heavy female hormones.

  58. Task complete. The .svg files for the new hair colors in the vector art mod have been repaired. The added colors are now properly aligned and have a MUCH smaller file size consistent with NovX's. Some colors have been given more sensible names and 2 new colors have been added as a bonus. Now to submit the fixed files to-

    ...wait, how do I do that? Do I just Email them to the Free Cities Dev?

  59. Can someone please explain how the new waist attribute works? I've only encountered "trim" and "average" so far but on slaves that I want to work on for the dairy, I've created them as plush and they are still having problems with big breasts. Is that normal?
    What does the new waist sizes do?

    1. as far as i understand how the Dairy works, the facility tends to focus on milk production so usually they change all hormonal diets to "Heavy Female" and apply the lactation drug until they have the max size breasts, (about 24000 CC's) so yes, they will mostly get the "immobilizing tits" stat.
      for the hips, as narrower they are the harder for the "cow girl" to give birth will be and it will damage their health, so unless you're thinking in making they breeders (as i do) you don't need to think about it

    2. the waist is basically for the "Future Societies" stuff, if you take the "Gender Traditionalism" and "Slimness Enthusiasm" i think, slaves with slimmer/more feminine waists are more accepted, and on the "Asset Expansionism" bigger ones will be better

    I've set the rules assistant to have slaves choose assignments (because I'm lazy), but in every weekly report it describes them as choosing where they want to go, but also describes them taking the week off, causing them them do nothing instead.

  62. Just some feedback on the UI. While I quite like it I find it slightly annoying to have to scroll down through it every time I come to the main page. Would it be possible to have an option letting you have it at the bottom of the screen rather than the top?
